Emergency Medical Services professionals play an essential role in protecting the health, safety and well-being of our communities we serve. EMS personnel routinely operate in demanding circumstances and continue to perform our duties during some of the most critical moments of people’s lives. Despite the importance of this work, issues affecting EMS professionals and the delivery of emergency medical services can receive insufficient attention not only at the ground level but also at the local, state & national levels. We are tired of being forgotten about and we will not allow our fellow brothers and sisters to suffer some of the unfortunate fates I have seen others in our field succumb to.
The proposed Alabama Chapter of EMSPAC would seek to provide an organized and professional voice for EMS within the state while promoting the strengthening of the EMS profession and supporting initiatives that benefit EMS professionals and the communities we serve.
Proposed mission
The Alabama Chapter would seek to:
- Advocate for policies that strengthen and improve Emergency Medical Services throughout Alabama.
- Promote the recruitment, retention, education and professional development of EMS personnel.
- Provide a unified voice for EMS professionals regarding issues affecting not only them but also the EMS system.
- Encourage constructive relationships between EMS organizations, healthcare organizations, policymakers, government officials and the communities we serve.
- Ensure ALL EMS personnel have immediate access to mental health assistance when needed most.
The chapter would seek to represent the interests of EMS professionals while maintaining appropriate ethical standards. Any political or advocacy activities would be conducted in accordance to any requirements imposed by the EMSPAC’s bylaws or standards.
Through this letter, we respectfully request that EMSPAC leadership consider this expression of interest and provide guidance concerning the requirements and procedures necessary to establish an Alabama chapter.
We understand that the development of the chapter’s organizational structure, membership framework, mission and outreach efforts will not come easy and it will be a long road but we are ready to head up the fight within our state alongside our fellow brothers and sisters.
We believe an Alabama chapter can provide an organized mechanism through which EMS professionals and supporters can participate in ensuring change for the future of emergency medical services and its personnel.
