EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE PUBLIC ADVOCACY COUNCIL
EMSPAC Mission Statement
The Emergency Medical Services Public Advocacy Council (EMSPAC) is dedicated to advancing the welfare of the men and women serving as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Paramedics and EMS Officers. We engage in public awareness, political lobbying, and legislative action to achieve wage & benefit parity and justice for all EMS providers.
EMSPAC is an Advocacy Organization for EMTs and Paramedics irrespective of their sector or agency of employment. We are an EMS Lobby dedicated purely to the interests of the actual Members of Service. EMSPAC seeks allies in all sectors to advance the agenda of EMS revitalization. We seek to increase our bargaining strength and gain full parity with other first responders and comparable trades. We seek living wages and decent benefits for the men and women out in the streets responding to prolong and preserve human life.
To that end the EMSPAC will mobilize its members to:
- ENGAGE IN EMS SOLIDARITY
We must support any member of service or their family in times of hardship through the coordination of mutual aid services.
We must put aside our agency affiliations, our sector of deployment and our tribalistic infighting to emerge as strong united service. We must work to build a profound unity amongst ourselves.
- ACHIEVE BROAD PUBLIC SYMPATHY
We must foster a broad, durable public sympathy for our EMS Members alongside a strong commitment to fully re-engage the public on matters of public health and general safety. Through public awareness, member media training and regular press engagement we will increase the exposure of positive stories about EMS members in the press. We will coordinate the release of our heroic positive calls, member activities and major incidents to the public.
We must organize a general campaign of public education showcasing EMS members ongoing dedication and service to the City, State and Nation.
- ENGAGE IN ADVOCACY AND POLITICAL ACTION
We must leverage the votes of all EMS and their families in a coordinated manner. We must use a Political Action Committee (PAC) to gain better access to politicians through campaign contributions. We must form a Policy Research Group to draft Pro-EMS Legislation and mobilize a United EMS Voting Block to get our specific needs and objectives on the agenda.
We must make politicians responsive and proactive to the demands of our unique industry.
- ENACT LEGISLATIVE CHANGE
We must support politicians that actually care about improving our industry. We will help draft legislation that protects and promotes our EMS members and lobby politicians to get such laws passed. Specifically we encourage politicians to mandate core items from the Basic Collective Bargaining Objectives into City, State and National Law and to reform the means to fund EMS Deployment in order to pay for such changes.
In an effort to improve awareness of threats to EMS crews and improve police response times. For our members to track assaults, crashes, injuries and serious medical hospitalizations of EMS. For our movement to possess compelling data and actual risk analysis of threats to EMS providers.
